A Taste of the Galapagos’s Cuisine

While there are so many reasons for visiting the incredible Galapagos Islands but we have never told you about fantastic food  and dining that you can find in this privileged place. We suggest not reading this post if you are hungry, because after learning about all these meals, your mouth will be watering.

Ceviche is a typical dish from Peruvian Cuisine, but the Ecuadorian people have adopted the recipe and have made a fantastic version of their own.  You can say that Ecudorian ceviches are more marinated or juicier and the Peruvian is served more as a salad. As you can imagine, in the Galapagos you can find a huge variety of fish, and they are all extremely fresh. That’s what make this dish so irresistible!  Just a quick walk trough the fish market in Puerto Ayora and you’ll be craving for a ceviche.

The base of the recipe its always the same, just raw fish marinated with lemon and allowed to rest a while so the fish can cook with the citric juice. The twist for this plate comes with kind of fish that you use.  You can try it with shrimp, but we recommend using your favorite kind of white fish.

The spices are another key ingredients in the preparation. Red onions, cilantro and some rocoto (a special kind of chilly) will enhance the fish flavor and give texture to the dish. It’s always good to add a personal touch to it as well.  In the Galapagos, sometimes you can find tropical fruits such as Mango, and crunchy white corn to add to it.

Soups are very popular in the Islands, for example the traditional Chupe, which also originated in Peru.   Instead of being made with chicken in the Galapagos, though, it’s made with fish and shrimp.  We can assure you that it’s unbelievable! For those that are more into veggies, you won’t want to miss the Locro Soup, made out of potatoes, cheese and avocado.  It’s sensational!

Lobsters, we don’t need to explain much further.  They are absolutely incredible in the Galapagos, cooked in so many different ways that you will need to go and try each of them for yourself.

You must be hungry by now!  Contact us and we can arrange a customized visit to the Galapagos Islands, where you can try and savor all these amazing dishes yourself!
