Discovering Galapagos

My husband and I always enjoyed watching documentaries; one that particularly caught our eye was the Galapagos Islands, it didn’t seem real and of course our idea was “sure, how many hours was the photographer filming in order to see the bird at close range”.

We finally decided that we should try it out. We found a really small boat (we didn’t want to be on a larger boat) and booked for our coming week-long vacation). Of course we expected turquoise water and white sand beaches as shown in the documentaries, but to our surprise the first nature encounter was with a family of lazy sea lions who wouldn’t allow us to board the dingy, they have taken over the tiny pier of San Cristobal and were actually “barking” at us!, the nerve!!, we are the masters of the universe yet they were the masters of the pier!!

The camaraderie that developed among the 8 passengers on board was so great that it came to a point where the gentlemen were planning to buy the boat and also one of the islands (a very small one), just to own a little bit of paradise!!…… the guide explained that it was impossible, the boat was not for sale, and the islands……. well, it belonged to the animals, the nerve!! we were no longer the masters of the universe!!.
