Galapagos and Amazon Tours

Combine and explore two of Ecuador’s natural wonders on a on a Galapagos and Amazon Tour.

In the Amazon Basin you’ll witness a complex ecosystem, where layers of dense vegetation harbor a truly mind-boggling number of species. Ecuador has more than 1,450 species of birds, many of which exist nowhere else. Accommodations are at Selva Lodge, Kapawi Lodge, Napo Lodge or Sacha Lodge, some of the newest jungle lodges in Ecuador. Contact us for a quote on Galapagos and Amazon Tours.

Two of our most popular Amazon options are Sacha Lodge and Napo Wildlife Center. Both trips begin in Quito, Ecuador’s capital city. From here, a 25-minute flight takes you over the Andes Mountains’ majestic snow-covered peaks and down into the Amazon Region. Your destination is the port town of Puerto Francisco de Orellana, locally known as Coca, where you will be met by a bilingual guide and taken to a private dock. Here you’ll pause for a snack and to use the rest rooms before boarding the covered motorized canoe for a 2-hour, 50-mile (80-kilometer) trip down the sediment-rich waters of the Napo, the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazonia. During the ride it is easy to spot handsome shore birds such as herons, kingfishers, spoonbills and ospreys between the scattered native huts as you travel steadily away from civilization.

Possible activities that can arranged on your trip to the Ecuadorian Amazon include:

*Canoe Rides

*Visits to Indigenous Communities

Itinerary Summary combining Amazon journey with Galapagos

La Selva Lodge

Located in primary rainforest, La Selva Lodge is surrounded by a tropical garden of colorful blossoms, billowing ferns and giant trees providing a green sanctuary to rare and exotic wildlife with intriguing insects, unique species of birds and butterflies and magical sceneries. The rain stimulates the forest’s luxuriant growth and drenches the visitor who come to see the spectacle.

There are a number of possible excursions with an English speaking guide, some more physically challenging than others. La Selva is home to many trails, a 135 foot observation tower, and a large butterfly farm. The adventures are limitless. Deep in this Amazon jungle of unparalleled biodiversity, La Selva provides lodging in a paradise where anything is possible.

The cabanas are private bungalows that keep you high and cozy, and are immaculately cleaned every day. It is important to note that these cabanas are made entirely of secondary growth rainforest materials and designed to blend with the surroundings. Each one has a private bathroom, a hammock and mosquito netting (although you will be surprised at how little need you will have for this item) for each bed.

There are 12 thatched cabanas of varying sleeping configurations and several public gathering spots, including the spacious dining room with a cone shaped roof, an open-air combined bar and a lounge with a wrap-around view of the lake. The hammock hut is preferred by many for siestas.

In May 2013, the lodge went through a process of deep renovations. Visitors to La Selva may now enjoy a Butterfly Spa, Yoga Retreats, and many other great special packages focused on yoga and massages. These options are ideal for honeymoons and romantic escapes. Rooms have also been upgraded for your comfort as part of the lodge’s consistent promise to indulge. Ask us today for more information about these new upgrades!
