Galapagos, a healing destination

When my husband passed away some years ago I received a very special invitation from a dear friend who told me “go to Galapagos, it is a healing place”. I was surprised at the description because for me a place such as Galapagos is an exploring or adventure destination full of activities and fun relationships, not a place to go with a broken heart.

I accepted the invitation because who could say no to Galapagos! off I went and it was the best thing to do!

I was booked in a small vessel named Athala II with a total capacity of 16 passengers. Since I didn’t want to create an odd impression about myself, I privately explained to the guide and asked him not to worry if sometimes I didn’t want to go on an excursion as I really would cherish some time on my own.

The simple act of contemplating such amazing nature so full of life and the calmness of the sea when the boat was anchored, the short times full of activities when guests departed from the boat or arrived at it, the remarks about the incredibly tame wildlife and the courteous yet very discreet attention from the crew made me understand my friend’s remark, “Galapagos is a healing place”.
