Galapagos & Amazon Tours

Amazon Jungle Scenery

Combine and explore two of Ecuador's natural wonders: the Amazon jungle rain forest and the Galapagos Islands. In the Amazon Basin you'll witness a complex ecosystem, where layers of dense vegetation harbor a truly mind-boggling number of species. Ecuador has more than 1,450 species of birds, many of which exist nowhere else. Accommodations are at Selva Lodge, Kapawi Lodge, Napo Lodge or Sacha Lodge, some of the newest jungle lodges in Ecuador.

Two of our most popular Amazon options are Sacha Lodge and Napo Wildlife Center. Both trips begin in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. From here, a 25-minute flight takes you over the Andes Mountains' majestic snow-covered peaks and down into the Amazon Region. Your destination is the port town of Puerto Francisco de Orellana, locally known as Coca, where you will be met by a bilingual guide and taken to a private dock. Here you’ll pause for a snack and to use the rest rooms before boarding the covered motorized canoe for a 2-hour, 50-mile (80-kilometer) trip down the sediment-rich waters of the Napo, the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazonia. During the ride it is easy to spot handsome shore birds such as herons, kingfishers, spoonbills and ospreys between the scattered native huts as you travel steadily away from civilization.

Sacha Lodge in the Amazon Jungle

Sacha Lodge

Guests at Sacha Lodge's 5000-acre (2000-hectare) private reserve have opportunities for plenty of activities while exploring the jungle. From an exciting first entrance into the reserve along a raised boardwalk through dense flooded palm forest where monkeys are often sighted, to watching parrot clay licks and fishing for piranha, there’s never a dull moment! Located on Pilchicocha Lake, a blackwater paradise where you'd least expect to find any sign of people, Sacha is a paradise for those looking for an authentic Amazon experience. Spend the next few days hiking trails, fishing for piranha, learning about local culture and spotting exotic wildlife.

Napo Wildlife Center in the Amazon Jungle

Napo Wildlife Center

This ecotourism project includes the conservation of approximately over 52,000 acres (over 21,400 hectares) of the most pristine Amazon Rain Forest within the Yasunì National Park, an important biosphere reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador, located by the Anangucocha lake, in the unique ancestral territory of the Anangu Quichua Community. Spend your time exploring the numerous trails with expert guides, try your hand at local activities, relax while bird watching from your bungalow and spot exotic wildlife from the canopy tower.
